A promotion has always been able to show a code. Now the code can actually take money off an order.
To set one up: 1. Open Promotions and create or edit a promotion. 2. Fill in the Code — SUMMER20, FIRSTORDER, whatever you like. Capitals and spaces don't matter; customers can type it however they want. 3. Tick "This code takes money off the order". 4. Choose a percentage or a fixed amount, and set the value. 5. Optionally set a minimum order, and a maximum number of uses.
Where customers use it: In their order, above the total, there is a Discount code box. They type the code, tap Apply, and the total updates. The code and the amount come through on the WhatsApp message you receive.
The one thing to be clear about: MenuBooklet does not take your customers' money. The discount is shown to them and recorded on the order — you apply it when you fulfil it. The customer's screen says so too: "The restaurant applies this when they take your order."
Three kinds of promotion: - Banner — a strip above the menu. - Pop-up — a card, or a poster if you upload one. - Code only — nothing is shown at all. Use this for a code you hand out by email or in person, when you don't want it pasted across the menu for everyone who never received it.
Limits and counting: Every use is counted, and the count shows on the promotion in your list — "used 14 / 50". Once a code hits its maximum it stops working. Codes also respect the promotion's own start and end dates, and a promotion set to one branch only works at that branch.
If a code expires while somebody is filling in their details, their order still goes through — at full price, with no code on it. Nobody loses their dinner to a deadline.
